WINDOWS 10 IPsec VPN

The Cisco IPsec client is no longer supported in Windows 10 (support for this has been stopped since Windows 8, however the latest version of the client appeared to work without issue on Windows 8).

The supported client/VPN standard Cisco are pushing for now is the any connect VPN. However with a standard license you can only have 2 concurrent sessions with the anyconnect VPN, rather than 10 concurrent sessions with IPSEC VPN.

An alternative client we have found works well with IPSEC is the free shrewsoft VPN client which can be downloaded from here:

https://www.shrew.net/download

The simplest way to set up the Shrewsoft client is to import the .pcf (profile file) from your existing Cisco VPN client. The profile can be located in the following folder, on a computer with the client and VPN already configured:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Systems\VPN Client\Profiles

In the shrewsoft client simply click file > import and select the file you have located in the above locations.

NOTE: when browsing your filesystem you may need to change the file type from Shrew Soft VPN File to Cisco PCF File.

If you do not have access to the .pcf file to import you will have to enter the details manually. The below settings should work for standard VPN set ups, however these settings may vary depending on your VPN.
